Nikola currently works as one of the leading engineers in Microsoft’s education sector, based at the Development Centre in Serbia. Nikola has been a consultant on the CCSS team developing a comprehensive system for the selection, placement and career guidance of candidates ever since its founding 4 years ago. He is dedicated to improving every part of this system.
At the start of his career Nikola worked as an engineer on the national project "Health System of Slovenia", through which he broadened his engineering foundation and versatility. Soon afterwards he took up the post of technical lead on a document management system project for a government institution in Austria. The team Nikola led architected, implemented and deployed the complete system. After the great success of the project, the software was given a commercial version, with major clients such as TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein). This organisation chose precisely this software among competing products from the world’s largest companies. The software received the Constantinus award as software of the year, that is, as the most innovative and most promising product of the year. Nikola’s engineering career continued at a company developing a data-collection platform, with the main focus on person-to-person conversations.
After this stage in his career, Nikola took a job at Microsoft, where he still works today. He was first a member of Bing’s maps team. The team worked on the intelligent understanding of data from various sources using a versatile set of logical and AI methods. The methods and the system his team developed are used to search for and understand chains of geographic entities. This invention was published and protected by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). At Microsoft he, together with a colleague, established a team for the further development and improvement of Microsoft’s existing mathematical modules with a view to bringing them to market commercially. Today this team has 15 engineers working on modules for recognising mathematical handwriting and on modules for solving and visualising mathematical problems using state-of-the-art algorithms and software. Nikola is the lead engineer for the serving infrastructure that processes millions of requests for mathematical tools, aligning them with the world’s highest privacy and compliance standards. Nikola has also worked for companies and Microsoft subsidiaries in several countries around the world, where his most important assignments were in Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Germany, Israel and the USA.
As regards the CCSS software, Nikola works on the serving infrastructure, the modules for administering the instruments and the modules for advanced multivariate statistical analyses. These subsystems are also connected to highly scalable services, taking into account the privacy and compliance standards that allow clients to administer the core API instruments. The API configuration also provides readable reports for many different clients and cases.
On completing his studies, Nikola took more than 10 different training courses in the domain of his profession in order to improve his knowledge and competencies. Over the last 5 years Nikola, as a mentor, has continually developed his associates. In addition, in his final years of study, Nikola was a laboratory mentor and assistant. Besides programming, Nikola has for several years specialised in the area of multivariate analysis and AI applications for learning software, as well as their application in business. Nikola is also increasingly working as an adviser in the aforementioned fields of his profession.
